Synthetic Hemp Rope PPTex

A historical fiber

Hemp is one of the oldest cultivated textile fibres. It is estimated that its cultivation in Europe and Asia dates back more than 8000 years. Since antiquity, this fiber has been used for ropes and boat sails, but also in clothing. Incidentally, for the record, the famous “de Nîmes” pants that will give their name to jeans’ Denim were initially made of hemp, a guarantee of resistance and longevity. With the industrial boom of cotton and then synthetic fibers, this material fell out of favor in Europe.

A recent resurgence of interest

Hemp cultivation has experienced a new boom in recent years. Hemp is an undemanding crop that requires no pesticides and no phytosanitary treatment. European countries are the main producers and processors in the world, along with China and Canada. In France there are 9000 hectares dedicated to this plant distributed in Aube, Sarthe, Côtes d'Armor and Haute Garonne. In this context, no mechanization of the processes had been redeveloped, as was the case more recently. with flax, for which even the spinning mills have not stood up to competition. The cultivation and mechanization of hemp processing are therefore at an experimental stage to obtain a long textile fiber, which is a difficult operation. Driven by a handful of committed players and the rare holders of know-how in this fiber in France, promising initiatives have made it possible to market the first hemp textiles. We follow this approach to offer you quality items with once again the guarantee of a 100% local product.
