It's a thermostable synthetic fiber designed to resist fire while possessing good textile properties. One example is the Nomex® brand manufactured in the USA by DuPont de Nemours. Also in this category are Rhones Poulenc's Kermel® and Teijin's Conex®.
Fire-resistant properties
This material is marketed in the form of continuous or spun fiber yarns. Its flame-retardant properties mean that it is used in protective clothing (gloves, fireman's jackets), fighter pilot or F1 suits, and clothing for personnel in industries where there is a risk of fire or electric arc.
