A local fiber

85% of the world's flax production comes from the coastal basin between Normandy and the Low Countries, along the English Channel and the North Sea. This region boasts an exceptional terroir, enabling us to grow some of the highest-quality linens in the world. France alone accounts for over 70% of global production! The conditions required to produce this fiber (temperate oceanic climate, well-distributed rainfall, stable year-round temperature, rich, deep soil) make it difficult to relocate, and ensure that the entire industry remains in Europe. In recent years, there has been a clear revival of interest in this fiber, and the industry is organizing itself to relocate the spinning of this fiber to France, where it used to be spun in Eastern or Southern Europe.

Organic by nature

This fabulous fiber needs no irrigation and virtually no inputs. By way of comparison, between 5,400 and 19,000 liters of water are used for irrigation to produce 1 kg of cotton! And cotton requires 5 times more fertilizer and pesticides than flax. Respect for the environment is omnipresent throughout the transformation from plant to fiber: retting is done naturally, with the plants spread out on the ground to decompose under the effect of soil bacteria and rain. After collection, the fields are left clean and litter-free. Then, throughout the entire industrial fiber preparation process (scutching, combing, spinning), the activity is totally mechanical and non-polluting. No chemical processes are involved. These operations are generally mastered by the agricultural cooperatives who grow the flax themselves, and for whom respect for the earth is engraved in their roots. As well as being totally biodegradable, this material is a veritable carbon sink, trapping 3.7 tonnes of CO2 per hectare. As part of our vital commitment to the environment, we offer our customers the option of dyeing our linen products using the GOTS-certified process. And to our knowledge, we are the only dyers in France to have been awarded this label.

Linen, a trendy and technical fiber

This is how we weave, braid and knit the most ecological and local fiber available to make a very wide range of decorative items (linen canvas, ropes and straps for furnishings and decoration). In recent years, the technical virtues of flax have become increasingly appreciated by our customers, and the fiber is now used in intimate blends for composites, insulation and acoustics.
